Every individual carries several roles in society, and the common one for everyone is their role as a student. Like every daughter or son, being a student requires one to possess the right values and attitude. The life of a student is crucial and exhausting however, it can also be fun to share and laugh at every struggle with peers. To be a good student entails discipline and hard work, not just attending classes. There are many storms and obstacles that every student has to battle along the journey, but these experiences will teach them how to defeat giant challenges in reality. Also, to gather significant lessons useful in the future, one must practice their role as a student in school and uphold correct practices for better character development. So, what are the right values and attitudes every student should possess? How do these values help them fulfill their role as a student? What exactly are the roles of a student in school?
Generally, one role of a good student is to be a disciplined and hardworking individual. These are essential qualities to have to persist along the way and achieve future success. However, a student’s role is not limited to these qualities; their role ranges from the right attitude with proper values. First, a student must meet academic expectations. It is their duty as students, and it will eventually hone their perseverance and skills. Learners must know how to set goals for themselves and achieve them strategically. It will prepare them for the real competition when they get to explore the real world. Second, good students must be respectful and embody their best behavior at school. Each student needs to develop kindness and politeness; for these are the foundation of a good character as a person. The pleasant attributes of a person will help them establish friendship and build healthy relationships with any personality at school i.e. teachers, schoolmates, school caretakers like janitors, canteen vendors, etc. Lastly, it is part of the role of a student to follow the rules and regulations. Obeying the rules is indispensable to all students; it will test their overall conduct and attributes as a person and as a student. The rules and regulations of the school are implemented to train and control students’ behavior. These will be a guide to impose good manners and proper conduct, which will effectively transform students into holistic individuals. A student's ability to maintain the right values and attitude is a one-way ticket towards building courage and strength in the field of what is known as life. Two significant pillars to fulfill the role of a student in the school are values and attitude. Having the correct values and manifesting them makes an ordinary student excellent. These values include a) Integrity b) Respect c) Responsibility d) Sportsmanship e) Servant Leadership. Integrity equates with honesty, but it is so much more than that since it deals with what is ethical and non-ethical. It is a valuable principle to be manifested for students who want to soar higher and keep a long-term commitment to their future. Also, respect is how you treat other people with kindness and equality; as the old saying goes, "respect begets respect" so it is a must to treat others the way you want to be treated. Moreover, every student needs to be responsible and have sportsmanship in any situation they encounter. It will help them appreciate and embrace every opportunity around them and inspire them to bring their best to all competition they venture themselves. The last essential value to instill as a student is Leadership. The ability to lead can never be found and earned overnight; one must cultivate it gradually. Leadership is honed at school, and it is the role of a student to work for it. The desire for skill improvement and character development is an inevitable part of a student’s life. These values are what students should aim for because this will mold their characteristics and will justify their capacity to accomplish their role as a student.
Along with values, the right attitude must also be upheld by each student. Many said that the right attitude brings a person higher in life in terms of success. And it is an agreeable fact that our attitude influences all our actions, and actions themselves are vital in determining if we will be able to get a good outcome. Only the right attitude will bring us the best result in whatever aspect of life. One role of a student is to achieve the right attitude; this will attract positive energy and opportunities. Values and attitudes are relative; if a student knows how to employ them both and embody them with grace; it will be safe to conclude that he/she was successful in fulfilling the role of a student.
