Life Challenges and their Contribution to Success

Obstacles will always present themselves in one’s pursuit to achieve their goal in life. According to Perry, the real test comes with the ability to adjust to the prevailing conditions or to let the challenges take charge and forfeit a goal. My story is a concatenation of experiences in life, overcoming obstacles, and learning from the challenges that I experience. It entails a series of events that led to the person that I am today. They instilled character and principles that showcase the better version of myself while providing a new understanding of positivity and happiness in life.

I always felt drained, exhausted, and out of breath as I stood in the cold mornings at the bus station, all by myself, at 6.00 a.m. My mum struggled to provide a steady mode of transport for my siblings and me. My school life was faced with a lot of challenges that caused my peers to question my decision. I studied outside my district and therefore had to travel so far to attend school. I would take three buses on my own to get to school on time. I made this decision because I was raised in a tough neighborhood that was surrounded by violence and high crime rates. This made it cumbersome for a young man like me to make any major advancements in life. Therefore, to me, the sacrifice was essential to obtain a quality education. I would leave the house so early in most mornings when it was still dark outside. I always got a way to work around my environment to mitigate any deterrence to my educational journey.

I believe that education is a vital foundation of life and I view it as a stepping stone to reach my life goals and aspirations. At the age of 17, I had to balance studies and 26+ hours of work a week at a chicken restaurant. These multiple challenges at such a tender age were not a walk in the park. I was not only affected academically but also mentally and would have easily given up and opted for an easier path. On the contrary, was encouraged by Scott to believe that the greater challenges and the obstacles I encountered would not stop me from achieving my goals. The resilience I had led me to a higher-paying job that enabled me to purchase a car.

These challenges led to my growth and transformed my perception of life. They increased my faith and hope in life. All of us experience hardship at some point in our lives but what defines us is the manner in which we overcome the challenges (Lenson). The obstacles caused me to work more diligently and eagerly for what I want in life. They stretched my imagination and increased my resilience and readiness to take greater risks. I feel less cold, drained, and exhausted these days. I fell closer to my goal and the burden of sacrifice and pressure from my peers is transforming me to become a role model in an adventurous journey.

To conclude, the combination of environmental challenges, my positive attributes, and the pursuit of overcoming inherent and imposed traits and flaws have also played a significant role in overcoming the challenges. I have a strong conviction that my skill set, motivation, and personality combined with quality education will help to transform me to contribute positively to society.
